The VOLANT Charitable Trust

This Trust was set up by the author J.K. Rowling to support charitable causes.

The Trust has two broad areas of funding:

• Research into the causes, treatment and possible cures of Multiple Sclerosis.

  J.K. Rowling is supporting major research and treatment into neuroregeneration and Multiple Sclerosis through the University of Edinburgh. The Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic opened in 2013 following a substantial donation made by J.K. Rowling in 2010. The clinic (www.annerowlingclinic.com) undertakes research into neurodegenerative diseases and offers outpatient care for people with neurological conditions. The Volant Trust is therefore not considering any health care applications, including other medical research, for the foreseeable future.

• Charities and projects, whether national or community-based, at home or abroad, that alleviate social deprivation, with a particular emphasis on women’s and children’s issues.

  The Trustees have chosen to fund major disaster appeals as the focus of the Trust’s International support; therefore, applications for projects overseas are not being considered.

How to Make an Application

Applications for funding requests of up to and including £10,000 per annum, for those projects based in Scotland only, are dealt with by our appointed agents, Foundation Scotland. For further information and to make an application click here.

All other requests for funding in Scotland and in the rest of the UK are dealt with by downloading an application form.

Complete and return the application form, plus any supporting materials by post, to the address opposite. Applications should not be hand delivered. If an application is hand delivered, management at Mail Boxes are not in a position to discuss applications and will not be expected to provide any form of receipt.

Please note that on receipt of a completed Volant application form the Trust will send an acknowledgement by email. The email address is not a correspondence address and due to the very large number of applications the Trust is now receiving, there will be no further communications from the Trust unless your application is successful.

Given the very large number of applications the Trust is currently receiving, we regret that we cannot enter into any communication regarding general enquiries.

 

How the Trust Works

The Trustees meet twice a year, in March and September, to consider applications and allocate funds. If your application is successful, you will be notified immediately after the meeting has taken place. The next deadline is for the meeting in September 2013 and is Friday 28^th June 2013.
